Seven-Spot Steam Injection Experiments in Heavy Oil Reservoirs Having a Bottom Water Zone

Abstract: A 3-D scaled physical model was used to compare the performance of steam injection in reservoirs having a bottom water zone with the application of different well configurations. The model was triangular, designed to represent 1 / 12 of a seven-spot pattern in the Batı Kozluca field in Turkey. Nine experiments were conducted by using the triangular model with or without a bottom water zone. The well configurations were changed during the course of experiments to determine their effects on oil recovery. Bottom … Show more

“…Steam injection was first developed by the petroleum industry for the enhanced oil recovery from rock reservoirs (Farouq Ali, 1974; Prats, 1982Prats, , 2003Bagci, 2005). During the last three decades, steam injection was tested as a method to remediate NAPLcontaminated sites (Hunt et al, 1988;Siegrist et al, 1998;Dablow et al, 2000;Kuhlman, 2002;Heron et al, 2005).…”

“…The technology of steam injection has been utilized in the oil production industry for more than 30 years. Various configurations of the steam-injection well system have been designed to obtain greater oil production rates (5). Simulation for the transport of the injected steam has also been developed (6).…”
