Abstract:Optimization problems, generalized equations, and a multitude of other variational problems invariably lead to the analysis of sets and set-valued mappings as well as their approximations. We review the central concept of set-convergence and explain its role in defining a notion of proximity between sets, especially for epigraphs of functions and graphs of set-valued mappings. The development leads to an approximation theory for optimization problems and generalized equations with profound consequences for the… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
