“…BlackBoard Collaborate (BBC) was selected from several options as the online teaching platform due to its whiteboard and breakout group features, and the integration of BBC into Desire2Learn (D2L), GGC’s learning management system. Several previously described methods of implementing a remote laboratory experience include examples, such as engaging students in virtual laboratory simulations, use of at-home laboratory kits, , or having students remotely access instrumentation through Internet-based connections. For the purposes of IL-1, the last option would have been the most appropriate choice for this upper-level course. However, due to the lack of consistency between groups (four different syntheses all at different stages of completion), a short time-scale for implementation, lack of existing computational infrastructure to access instruments remotely, and the inability for instructors to be on campus, a different approach was selected for this course.…”

“…There are many published articles on the use of online platforms in teaching of chemistry. The Journal of Chemical Education ( JCE ) Chemical Education Xchange (ChemEd X), which fosters sharing of digital resources among chemical educators, was a useful resource during the pandemic. ,,,,, Another flagship publication of ACS, The ACS Symposium Series , has published peer-reviewed articles on teaching using online platforms. , …”
