Service roaming in mobile applications

Abstract: The evolution of wireless network technology has led to an increasing number of applications for mobile use. In addition, the paradigm of service-oriented architectures allows a composition of applications based on distributed web services. By using registries it becomes possible to choose the appropriate services at runtime. It needs to be considered that services for mobile use may have different scopes. For instance, routing or weather services may be dedicated to a specific region so that they may be usele… Show more

“…Besides the project FLAME2008, the service connector is also used in service roaming (Gartmann, Holtkamp, Weissenberg, & Li, 2005) and the project AMGrid 2 (CAFISE, 2003), which targets virtual enterprises among different manufacturing companies. The experiences from real-world projects show that with the model, language and tools presented in this paper, a service-oriented application has the following advantages:…”

“…This section concentrates on reviewing previous work on communication middleware in continuous service execution environments. Continuous service execution, studied as service roaming in related work [ 17 , 18 ], enables the consumption of services in a mobile environment. Services are only valid in a specific scope, becoming useless where the user moves outside it.…”

“…For the details of the service roaming mechanism and architecture the reader is referred to Gartmann et al [17]. Initially service matching is used to provide the services currently needed by a user.…”
