Serum tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, monocyte chemotactic protein-1 and paraoxonase-1 profiles in women with endometriosis, pcos, or unexplained infertility

Abstract: Circulating cytokine levels were influenced by ovarian stimulation, as demonstrated by increased levels of IL-6, MCP-1 and PON-1, and decreased level of TNF-α at the end of controlled ovarian stimulation. While evidence of relationship between circulating cytokines with mild endometriosis was not found, PCOS was associated with elevated serum IL-6 and MCP-1 but lower TNF-α concentration. Unexplained infertility was associated with elevated TNF-α level. No relationship between serum PON-1 concentration and PCOS… Show more

“…PCOS presents with acne symptoms together with polycystic ovaries, oligo‐anovulation and hyperandrogenism . Hyperandrogenism likely drives acne in PCOS, although as it is a proinflammatory disease, immune genes and cytokines could likewise predispose to acne symptoms (Table ) . A number of GWASs have been performed for PCOS .…”

[129][130][131][132][133] A number of GWASs have been performed for PCOS. [134][135][136][137][138] Hormonal therapies are a well-tolerated and effective way to control acne with and without endocrine disorders.…”

“…PON1 activity is decreased in several pathological conditions (diabetes type II, coronary heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, hyperthyroidism, Alzheimer, and others), as well as in workers exposed to OPs independently or have a PON1 genetic polymorphism (Mackness et al, 1998;Brophy et al, 2002;Ferr e et al, 2002;Paragh et al, 2002;Tanimoto et al, 2003;Deakin and James, 2004;Costa et al, 2005;S€ ozmen et al, 2007;Araoud et al, 2010;Hofmann et al, 2010;Gbandjaba et al, 2012;Gugliucci et al, 2012;Gungor et al, 2013). In this sense, Younis et al (2014) reported that circulating IL-6, MCP-1 and PON1 levels are influenced by ovarian stimulation. On the other hand, Bobin-Dubigeon et al (2013) observed that in patients with metabolic syndrome, the levels of inflammatory markers, with the exception of sTNF-R2, were significantly higher, while PON1 activity was significantly lower.…”

“…161 The genes related to inflammatory cytokines and chronic inflammation such as TNF-a, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1A and IL-1B might also become possible candidate genes correlated with PCOS. [162][163][164][165][166] Although studies for the inflammation cytokines and PCOS have shown mixed results, several GWAS concerning PCOS identified several susceptibility loci and SNPs (Table 10). [167][168][169][170][171] Identifying the genetic pathways involved in PCOS may provide a better understanding of the mechanism causing PCOS and the correlation with inflammatory cytokines and acne vulgaris.…”
