Serum MIP-1α and IL-8 in septic patients

Abstract: The production of MIP-1 alpha and IL-8 was increased in sepsis. Furthermore, an initially detectable level of circulating IL-8, but not MIP-1 alpha, predicted a high mortality in sepsis diagnosed according to the ACCP/SCCM criteria.

“…Several chemokines have been identified as biomarkers for sepsis, such as CXCL8, CXCL13, CCL2, and CCL8 [18,[25][26][27][28]. Here, we show that CXCL13 concentration is elevated in the serum of patients with Fig.…”

“… 28 , 29 Previous studies have also observed that IL-8 and MCP-1 have a positive correlation with the SOFA score and were higher in non-survivors within the first 24 hours after admission to the ICU. 30 Our results strongly suggested that MCP-1 and IL-8 acted as key chemokines to induce cytokine storms in the abdomen and serum during the progression of sepsis. Unlike other cytokines, which have broad effects on many cells, chemokines are usually cell-specific.…”

“…Our animal experiment dealt not only with the therapeutic effect on hypotension but also with treatment prognosis and biomarkers that re ect treatment prognosis. Several studies have con rmed that IL-6 and IL-8 can be used to evaluate the prognosis of sepsis or septic shock [16][17][18] , with the poor prognosis group showing higher concentrations. On the basis of this conclusion, we measured the IL-6 and IL-8 levels of the minipig septic shock model under IO and CVC access for drug administration to indirectly re ect the prognosis for the two routes of norepinephrine administration during septic shock.…”
