Serum metabolomic profile of hair dye use

Abstract: The International Agency for Research on Cancer reported that some chemicals in hair dyes are probably carcinogenic to those exposed to them occupationally. Biological mechanisms through which hair dye use may be related to human metabolism and cancer risk are not well-established. We conducted the first serum metabolomic examination comparing hair dye users and nonusers in the Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention Study. Metabolite assays were conducted using ultrahigh performance liquid chromatog… Show more

“…Although the use of chemical hair products, particularly permanent dye and straighteners/relaxers, has been linked to the incidence of cancers and other adverse health outcomes, 5–13 our findings suggest that these relationships may not be primarily attributed to biological aging pathways captured by DunedinPACE, GrimAgeAccel, or PhenoAgeAccel. Alternative biological pathways may be worth investigating, 36 particularly in racially diverse populations, to better understand the impact of chemical hair products.…”

“…Further, the powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) patterns were obtained at 300 K and 410 K using an XRD spectrometer with a Mo Ka radiation source by utilizing the SCXRD method. 32 NMR spectra of the N(CH 3 ) 4 CdBr 3 crystals were recorded using a solid-state NMR spectrometer (Bruker 400 MHz Avance II+) at KBSI. The 1 H magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR data at the Larmor frequency of u o /2p = 400.13 MHz and the 13 C MAS NMR data at the Larmor frequency of u o /2p = 100.61 MHz were measured as a function of temperature.…”
