The lack of difference in plasma carbonyl-metabolome between HF and LF steers was unexpected but not surprising because one of the major energy substrates, glucose, is tightly regulated and is in continuous supply via gluconeogenesis ( Aschenbach et al, 2010 ; Clemmons et al, 2017 ).
