Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent malignancies in women worldwide. Although great progress has been achieved in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, the prognosis of patients with breast cancer is still poor due to distal recurrence and metastasis after surgery. This study demonstrated that the expression level of ankyrin repeat domain 22 (ANKRD22) in human breast cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in normal breast tissues. ANKRD22 knockdown inhibited the proliferation, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of breast cancer cells. Further research indicated that ANKRD22 regulated the expression of nucleolar and spindle-associated protein 1 (NuSAP1) and then the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Moreover, overexpression of NuSAP1 reversed the inhibitory effects of ANKRD22 knockdown on the proliferation, invasion, and EMT of breast cancer cells. In summary, this study demonstrated that ANKRD22 enhanced breast cancer cell malignancy by activating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway via modulating NuSAP1 expression, which might shed light on new therapeutic approaches for breast cancer.

Incidence and mortality rates of cancer continue to increase greatly despite the improved diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Based on GLOBOCAN estimates, the numbers of new cancer cases reported in 2018 were ~18.1 million, while the numbers of cancer mortalities were ~9.6 million. It remains difficult to diagnose most cancer patients at early stages. Although cancer therapy market is rapidly evolving, the effectiveness of therapy is still inadequate. Therefore, exploring new biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment is essential for cancer management. Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are unique regulatory molecules that control several cellular processes and are implicated in diverse human diseases including cancer. LncRNAs could serve as potential biomarkers for cancer patients to aid diagnosis and determine prognosis. In addition, numerous lncRNAs have proved their ability to predict response to cancer treatment. FAM83H antisense RNA 1 (FAM83H‐AS1) is among those highly dysregulated lncRNAs in cancer. FAM83H‐AS1 was demonstrated to participate in the progression of different malignancies and also shown to play a vital role in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Here, we analyse recent studies concerning the oncogenic role and molecular mechanisms of lncRNA FAM83H‐AS1 in the following cancer types: bladder, breast, lung, hepatocellular, colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, ovarian, cervical cancer as well as glioma.

Kidney injury is a dangerous diabetic microvascular complication responsible for the mortality of diabetics, which would require biomarkers for early detection of diabetic nephropathy. Copeptin, the C-terminal portion of vasopressin prohormone, is rapidly released in severe endogenous stress. So, the current work was carried out to evaluate and estimate copeptin as a marker for diabetic nephropathy. This cross-sectional work was conducted on 60 female and male type II diabetic cases. Diabetic cases were divided as normoalbuminuric (urinary albumin was <30 mg/24 h) without nephropathy and macroalbuminuric (urinary albumin was >300 mg/24 h) with nephropathy. The Control group was designated from fifteen matched healthy subjects. Controls and patients were evaluated for fasting blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), urinary albumin, serum creatinine, and serum copeptin. Copeptin concentrations were significantly increased in type II diabetics with macroalbuminuria comparing to healthy controls and diabetics with normoalbuminuria. Serum copeptin concentrations were correlated positively with gold standard urinary albumin, serum creatinine, and HbA1c. Higher serum copeptin concentration in type II diabetics particularly in diabetics with nephropathy and its correlation with urinary albumin and HBA1c reflect the potential role of copeptin as a predictor of diabetes mellitus and development of diabetic nephropathy among type II diabetics considering other risk factors.
