Serum Krebs von den Lungen‐6 levels in psoriatic patients under treatment with biologics

Abstract: During biologic treatments, attention should be paid to adverse reactions, particularly infectious diseases. Furthermore, drug‐induced interstitial lung disease is also known to be associated with biologic therapies. We retrospectively reviewed serum Krebs von den Lungen‐6 (KL‐6) levels in psoriatic patients who underwent treatment with seven different biologics. A total of 67 patients who received 80 biologic treatments were evaluated. The 31 anti‐tumor necrosis factor (TNF)‐α treatments consisted of 17 infli… Show more

“…We and Iwata et al . demonstrated that SEC did not decrease KL‐6 levels in the overall study population, 18,19 while, Chijiwa et al demonstrated that SEC decreased KL‐6 levels in a high baseline KL‐6 group 20 . In line with their findings, our study indicates that the effect of anti‐IL‐17 biologics on KL‐6 levels is more evident in the high baseline KL‐6 group than in the overall study population.…”

“…Iwata et al . showed that neither IL‐17 inhibitors nor IL‐23 inhibitors had any significant impact on the serum KL‐6 level 19 . Because increased serum KL‐6 levels were observed with biologic treatments for psoriasis, especially with TNF inhibitors, it is necessary to monitor the KL‐6 level during treatment with biologics and rule out the occurrence of IP.…”
