“…This contributed to initiating treatment with the HLH-94 protocol, which involves dexamethasone and etoposide [ 8 ]. The HLH-94 protocol, derived from primary HLH, has shown five-year survival rates of up to 62% in collaborative studies, but early mortality and neurological sequelae can occur in as many as 20% of cases [ 9 , 10 ]. While central nervous system (CNS) involvement is a concern in some types of lymphoma, it was not observed in our case.…”

“…Raschke et al suggest that progressive pancytopenia may be a feature that is more likely to suggest secondary HLH as opposed to septic shock, but in our case, this has shown itself to not be useful in patients with chronic cytopenia such as a patient with HIV. Further complicating the picture is the fact that ferritin, which is an inflammatory marker and elevated in both infection and HLH, has also been shown to be markedly elevated in patients with untreated classic Hodgkin lymphoma without lymphadenopathy [ 10 ].…”

“…PET-driven strategies have been adopted during the last 15 years, initially for advanced-and later for early-stage disease. The evolution of treatment strategies during the study period has been described in recent publications of our group [58,59].…”
