Serum carbohydrate antigen 153 and renal function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract: Serum CA153 is negatively correlated with estimated GFR in patients with T2DM, and serum CA153 may be a potentially useful clinical biomarker to assess renal function in the study population.

“…showed that any degree of albuminuria is a risk factor for cardiovascular events in individuals with T2DM and that risk increases progressively with UACR elevation ( 8 ). A previous study found that CA153 was negatively related to eGFR and positively related to HbA 1c and FPG in patients with T2DM ( 9 ). Turgutalp et al.…”

“…A previous study indicated that CA199 levels in T2DM patients with microvascular complications including neuropathy, diabetic nephropathy, and retinopathy were significantly increased in comparison with those without microvascular complications ( 13 ). It has also been reported that renal impairment could lead to increased serum CA125 levels, which have been independently correlated with urinary microalbumin ( 14 ). Our results are in agreement with this finding.…”

“…The median, interquartile range (IQR) of RFM in females was higher than that in males (44.8 (42.3-47.2) % vs 31.3 (28.8-34.1) %, respectively; P < .0001). The median (IQR) of BMI in females was no higher than that in males (30 (27-34) kg/m 2 vs 30 (27)(28)(29)(30)(31)(32)(33)(34), respectively; P = .5152). The obesity prevalence was 99% in males and 98% in females according to RFM.…”

“…33 Peng et al demonstrated that serum carbohydrate antigen 153 negatively correlates with renal function in T2DM patients. 34 We did not include these laboratory tests in our study. The limitations of this study are the absence of the reference methods for the determination of body fat percentage and GFR.…”

“…The expression of CEA correlates with age [ 26 ], smoking [ 27 ], glucose and lipid metabolism disorders [ 28 , 29 ], and the chronic inflammatory state of the body [ 30 ]. However, CA153 was also significantly increased in diseases such as renal impairment in type 2 diabetes [ 31 ], interstitial lung disease [ 32 ], idiopathic inflammatory myositis [ 33 ], sarcoidosis [ 34 ], and SARS-CoV-2 infection [ 35 ]. Adjuvant chemotherapy can aggravate blood glucose and blood lipid metabolic disorders while killing potential tumors [ 36 , 37 ], leaving the body in a state of chronic inflammation.…”
