Serum amyloid A‐to‐albumin ratio as a potential biomarker to predict the activity, severity, and poor prognosis of systemic lupus erythematosus

Abstract: Objectives: To evaluate the predictive value of serum amyloid A-to-albumin ratio (SAR) for active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), severe active SLE, and poor prognosis of SLE. Methods:One hundred and eighty-six patients with SLE undergoing treatment in our hospital were selected. The demographic characteristics, clinical data, and disease prognosis of all patients were collected and analyzed. Results: There were significant differences in SLEDAI, total glyceride (TG), serum amyloid A (SAA), SAR, urinary mic… Show more

“…Many reports showed that C3 in patients with active SLE was lower than that in patients with stable SLE, while ESR was higher than that in stable SLE 30 . Our study found that TG, ESR, anti‐dsDNA, FAR, and C3 were the independent influencing factors of active SLE, which had a few difference with Zhao's report, 19 and the reason may be related to the differences of subjects. The further study found that ESR, anti‐dsDNA, FAR, and C3 were the influencing factors of severe active SLE.…”

“…18 Active SLE including mild, moderate, and severe active SLE was defined as SLEDAI > 5 points, and non‐severe active SLE including stable, mild active, moderate active SLE was defined as SLEDAI < 15 points. According to Zhao's report, 19 the clinical remission SLE includes complete remission, clinical hormone‐free remission, and clinical hormonal remission, the poor prognosis SLE includes disease recurrence and death.…”

“…The combination of logistic regression analysis and nomograms can be used to identify and visualize risk factors for diseases [ 10 ]. To improve the sensitivity and specificity of early diagnosis of SLE, the study of the risk of early-onset SLE relied on variables selected by logistic regression as predictors to assess between-group differences in clinical characteristics [ 4 ].…”

“…Dai LL et al reported that with the increase in disease activity in SLE, the level of ALB decreased [9]. But Zhao L et al showed that there was a signi cant difference in albumin (ALB) between active SLE and stable SLE patients; the area under curves (AUCs) of ALB for predicting active SLE and severe active SLE were 0.686 [10]. LN patients with serositis had signi cant differences in the levels of plasma albumin (ALB) [11].…”
