“…Postoperatively, there was no palpable fluctuant swelling present in any of the patients in group C of current series, where progressive tension sutures were added in patients who had limited supraumbilical dissection or lipoabdominoplasty. Similar clinical results were seen in the study of Martino et al; however, an ultrasonic investigation in his study showed a seroma rate formation of 10% in his lipoabdominoplasty cases [19]. Interestingly, ultrasound examination revealed seroma formation in second or third week postoperatively.…”

“…There was no statistical difference in the incidences of seroma formation between two groups following the use of progressive tension sutures in each group [28]. The study points to a Di Martino et al [19] paper in which ultrasound studies showed that insertion of drains and development of seroma take place at two different times and are independent to each other.…”

“…Liposuction was not performed in our cases, although lipoabdominoplasty is an already widely used and well-described technique. In comparison to abdominoplasty alone, lower [30], similar [31,32], but also higher complication rates [33] are reported. We conclude that evidence is still lacking, if additional liposuction is beneficial for the outcome or not.…”

“…Nahas [21,22] later demonstrated, using ultrasound imaging, that quilting sutures avoid liquid collection under the abdominal flap. Arantes [23] even argued that it is not necessary to place drains when quilting suture was placed.…”
