Serological and Molecular Testing in Viral Hepatitis: An Update

Abstract: The routine serological diagnoses of the three major forms of viral hepatitis - A, B and C - as well as delta hepatitis, are important in the evaluation of acute and chronic viral hepatitis. Increasingly, molecular virology is also being used to evaluate patients with chronic hepatitis C, with genotype and viral load testing to plan therapy.

“…For HBV, NATs, and HBsAg detection play different roles in the diagnosis or management of chronic hepatitis . Additionally, for the diagnosis of HAV infection, the detection of anti‐HAV IgM is still the gold standard and HAV RNA testing is used as a research tool . For these reasons, serological approaches including anti‐HAV IgM, HBsAg, and anti‐HCV IgG are still important for viral hepatitis detection in clinical settings.…”

“…1). 10 Samples for HCV-RNA testing in dialysis patients should be obtained prior to the HD procedure; heparin used during dialysis sessions can interfere with the PCR technique. In addition, the HD procedure lowers HCV-RNA levels by adsorption of HCV RNA onto the inner surface of dialyzers and destruction of viral particles by the hydraulic pressure exerted by the bood for dialysis.…”

“…Bunların yanı sıra diyaliz sırasında rutin olarak kullanılan heparin PZR ile etkileşmekte ve yalancı negatif sonuçlara neden olabilmektedir. Bu nedenle PZR çalışılacak kan örneğinin diyaliz öncesinde alınması önerilmektedir (27). Ça-lışmamızda kullanılan tüm kan örnekleri hastaya diyaliz uygulanmadan hemen önce alınmıştır.…”
