Serologic analysis of human tumor antigens

Abstract: The immune adherence (IA) assay was used to measure serum reactivity of patients with melanoma and osteosarcoma against paired cell lines (tumor cells and normal skin fibroblasts obtained from the same individuals) grown in tissue culture. Sera from 224 patients with various stages of melanoma were compared with sera from 100 normal age-and sex-matched donors. None oft.he 18 stage I sera (0%), 23 of 166 (14%) stage II sera, 3 of 40 (7%) stage III sera, and 3 of 100 (3%) normal sera were highly reactive to a st… Show more

“…Thus, tumor regression by melanoma specific-CTLs is sometimes followed by vitiligo, indicating the destruction of normal melanocytes by these cancer-specific CTLs [15]. This evidence may be relevant to previous findings.…”

“…3 In patients who received either 2 or 12 Gy of total body irradiation (TBI) ϩ NMA chemotherapy before ACT, there was a statistically significant association between increased doses of irradiation and complete responses rate. 4 In recent clinical trials, patients treated with unselected bulk "young" TILs that were minimally cultured in vitro demonstrated an OR rate of 50%, 5 and an OR of 58% was observed in patients receiving young TILs that were enriched for CD8 ϩ T cells. 6 Autologous PBMCs that were engineered to express tumor-reactive TCR genes recognizing tumor antigens have also been shown to mediate tumor regression in patients with metastatic melanoma.…”

“…Vitiligo patients also possess high frequencies of circulating CD8 + T cells specific for the melanocyte antigen Melan-A [96][97][98][99]. The presence in the normal peripheral T cell repertoire of CD8 + T cells specific for melanocyte differentiation antigens has also been demonstrated by the onset of vitiligo in melanoma patients that were vaccinated with melanocyte antigens to elicit CTL-mediated anti-tumor responses [100,101].…”
