“…Other workers investigated the diagnostic value of the serum IgM levels against A60 antigen in extrapulmonary and smear‐negative pulmonary TB, and the results indicated a sensitivity of 10.5% and a specificity of 99.4% for IgM [17]. A recent study from Turkey, using A60 by ELISA in the sera of active smear‐ and/or culture‐positive lung TB cases, demonstrated that the sensitivity and specificity values were 53.6% and 94.7% for IgG, and 43.8% and 97.4% for IgM [20]. Thus, results from different sources show great variations, depending on the population studied and the site of the disease.…”

“…The diagnostic methods presented so far have been direct diagnostic methods, while serology offers an alternative, indirect approach to pathogen detection. Serology, screening for the presence of specific antibodies in the serum of animals, can be a useful indicator of previous exposure to a pathogen, especially for viruses, and this type of screening is used routinely in clinical and veterinary medicine (Palmer‐Densmore, Johnson & Samara 1998; Yüce, Yücesoy, Genç, Sayan & Uçan 2001; Fournier & Raoult 2003).…”

“…In a study performed in Ghana [120], using an immunochromatographic serodiagnostic test for simultaneous detection of IgG, IgA and IgM specific for A60, the sensitivity was 80% and the specificity was 98%. In a study conducted in Turkey [121], the sensitivity and specificity of three antibody isotypes, IgG, IgA and IgM, specific for A60 were compared in three patients groups (those with active TB, latent TB and miliary TB). The results showed that the detection of IgA specific for A60 was the most sensitive, with positivity rates of 78.1%, 73.7% and 37.5% for active, miliary and inactive TB cases respectively.…”
