Series Formulae for the He I-like Spectra Na X through Ar XVII (Z=11-18)

Abstract: The constants in Rydberg-Ritz formulae have been evaluated for lsnl series by fitting the lowest few terms. Each formula allows prediction of the energies of all terms of a particular type in a particular spectrum.Formulae are given for the 3S1, ' S o , 'c, 3e, 3p01, 'P:, 'D,?,, 'D,, ID,, and '*SF' series in each spectrum. The formulae for the S and Po series are based on values of the lower terms calculated by Ermolaev and Jones, and thus effectively extend these calculations to all series members. Value… Show more

“…However, extension of the laser method to much higher Z is experimentally not feasible. Indirect measurements using x-ray and UV spectroscopy have been performed and are summarized in review articles by Martin [8] and Desequelles [9], but such measurements have not been very precise. So far there have been no measurements reported with sufficient precision to examine the theoretical predictions at high Z.…”

“…The results shown in tables 1-3 can be used to determine the ground-state ionization energies of F VIII and Mg XI using a procedure similar to that of Seely and Feldman (1985) and Martin (1981). Following Martin (1981), the measured wavelengths for the Rydberg series are expressed in the form…”

“…The nD series in neon-like ions converges to the ground level of the fluorine-like ion as n → ∞. In our previous work, the ground state ionization energies of Ne-like nickel and germanium were measured [9] following the technique in [32,33]. From the lines in the present work we derive the first and second ionization energies of Cu 19+ and the energy difference of the 2 P levels in the ground configuration in Cu 20+ according to…”
