Sequence Conservation of the 12D3 Gene in Mexican Isolates of Babesia bovis

Abstract: The 12D3 antigen present in Babesia bovis has been evaluated as a recombinant vaccine candidate and the 12d3 coding sequence has been reported for an Australian and an USA (Texas) isolate of B. bovis. However, no approach has been conducted to perform analysis of 12d3 sequence conservation on a larger number of B. bovis isolates. This could provide important information to determine whether a recombinant vaccine containing this antigen could be widely used. This study reports the cloning and sequencing analysi… Show more

“…However, information on the conservation of genes that encode remains scarce (Perez et al, 2010). Such knowledge is important, as various proteins may elicit protective responses only against homologous isolates and outbreaks of the disease may involve the challenge of heterologous isolates.…”

“…Additionally, whole blood was obtained from animals infected with 9 different B. bovis isolates (Genis et al, 2009;Pérez et al, 2010), and 9 different B. bigemina isolates including one isolate with mixed infection (Figueroa et al, 2013). In addition, 10 engorged female ticks that fed on calves experimentally infected with B. bovis and B. bigemina and positive to the tick hemolymph test (Castañeda et al, 2012) were included in the study.…”

“…En otros estudios se han identificado los antígenos más conservados para B. bovis (154)(155)(156)(157)(158) , los cuales se utilizaron para desarrollar pruebas de ELISA indirecta para ambas especies (159,160) , que a su vez fueron herramientas para el seguimiento serológico de animales experimentalmente inmunizados (161,162,163) . Esas pruebas también se incorporaron en estudios seroepidemiológicos de hatos de bovinos localizados en diferentes zonas ganaderas del país (160,164) .…”
