Sepiolite Enfolded Sulfur/ZnO Binary Composite Cathode Material for Li-S Battery

Abstract: Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) batteries have become an incredible challenge for the approaching age of high-vitality stockpiling gadgets. Nevertheless, one of the main specialized issues emerging in Li-S batteries is the polysulfide disintegration among electrodes and striking capacity limit. Here, sieved sepiolite (200 mesh sieve) has been favored as an added substance material to counter the above difficulties in the sulfur battery. The zinc oxide nanoparticles were prepared by co-precipitation method and a Sulfur/p… Show more

“…The two peaks determined at approximately 170 and 168 eV correspond to the bridging sulfur of the polysulfide species, and this is probably formed by the oxidation of sulfur during photopolymerization. Here, the polymerization may have proceeded not over the vinyl group but over the sulfur, albeit with short chains 53–55 . The metal percentages according to the results obtained from the XPS analysis are shown in Table 3.…”

“…The result shows that GO can be effectively reduced by high-temperature. After sulfur loading, two additional peaks at 217 and 472 cm −1 are detected in S-ZnO/rGO and S-3D-ZnO/rGO ( Figure 6 b), which is due to the S-S bond vibration of elemental sulfur [ 32 ]. At the same time, the calculation shows that the I D / I G values of S-ZnO/rGO and S-3D-ZnO/rGO composites are 1.08 and 1.10, respectively, which shows a little increase.…”

“…15 Due to the intricate network of channels and pores, sepiolite can provide a distinctive platform for effective polysulfide entrapment, curbing the undesirable migration of these species and thereby enhancing battery performance. [16][17][18][19] This remarkable attribute of sepiolite could not only elevate the stability and efficiency of lithium-sulfur batteries but also underscores the potential of harnessing abundant natural resources for the development of high-performance materials in the realm of future energy technologies. In fact, sepiolite has a potential as an adsorption material, particularly for removing organic contaminants 20 and heavy metal pollutants from water.…”
