Separation of nine compounds fromSalvia plebeiaR.Br. using two-step high-speed counter-current chromatography with different elution modes

Abstract: Nine compounds were successfully separated from Salvia plebeia R.Br. using two-step high-speed counter-current chromatography with three elution modes. Elution-extrusion counter-current chromatography was applied in the first step, while classical counter-current chromatography and recycling counter-current chromatography were used in the second step. Three solvent systems, n-hexane/ethyl acetate/ethanol/water (4:6.5:3:7, v/v), methyl tert-butyl ether/ethyl acetate/n-butanol/methanol/water (6:4:1:2:8, v/v) and… Show more

“…Elution–extrusion counter-current chromatography was applied in the first step, while classical counter-current chromatography and recycling counter-current chromatography were used in the second step. The separation yielded nine compounds including hispidulin in the Salvia plebeian extract 39 . High-speed countercurrent chromatography (HSCCC) was successfully applied for the isolation and purification of flavonoids from Herba salviae Plbeiae using stepwise and dual-mode elution with a pair of two-phase solvent systems.…”

“…Bioactivity-guided fractionation of the methanol extract of the leaves of Santolina insularis led to the isolation of hispidulin and other xanthone 39 . Seven flavonoidal compounds including hispidulin were isolated from the flowers of C. rivulare (Jacq.)…”

“…Hence the EECCC mode was adopted for efficient separation. For EECCC mode, the suitable K value range could be elongated to 0.4-16 [25]. The α values in n-hexane/methanol/formic acid solution system with solvent volume ratio of 10:4:6 (pH = 3), 10:6:4 (pH = 3), 10:7:3 (pH = 2) and 10:5:5 (pH = 1) were all larger than 1.5 as shown in Table 1.…”

“…[3 -6] Salvia plebeia R. BR has traditionally been used as folk medicine for its hemogenetic, hemostatic, antioncotic, and anti-inflammatory effects. [7] Phytochemical studies of S. plebeia revealed the presence of terpenoids, [2][8] [9] flavonoids [10] and lignans [11] in the plant. Here we describe the isolation and structure elucidation of three new endesmane sesquiterpenoids, named salplebeones A -C (1 -3).…”
