Separation of Cobalt and Nickel with 2-Ethylhexyl Phosphonic Acid Mono-2-Ethylhexyl Ester Using a Countercurrent Mixer-Settler Cascade

Abstract: Separation of cobalt and nickel was investigated using a 4-stage countercurrent mixer-settler cascade, employing 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester as the extractant. Extraction equilibrium formulations were established up to high loading ratios and extraction constants were determined, based on a batch extraction system in both single metal and binary metal systems. The separation of cobalt and nickel was then carried out using the 4-stage countercurrent mixer-settler cascade. Selective extr… Show more

“…Recently, we conducted single-stage extraction with Et-Tol-DAPhen as the extractant and observed its stronger affinity for actinides over Eu(III). Cascade countercurrent extraction is a realistic operation that can simulate the operation of the multistage mixer-settler in the reprocessing process of SNF. , The cascade countercurrent extraction employs centrifuge tubes, pipettes, oscillators, and centrifuges as the operating equipment, which can complete the operation steps, including pipetting, oscillating mixing, centrifuging, and dividing, to simulate the operation of the mixing and clarification process . The principle of the cascade countercurrent extraction is the same as that the real industrial application process.…”
