Separation and determination of phospholipids in plant seeds by nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis

Abstract: A method has been developed for the separation and determination of phospholipids by nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis in a separation medium of acetonitrile-2-proponol (3:2, v/v), 0.3% acetic acid and 60 mM ammonium acetate. To optimize the separation conditions, the composition of separation medium including alcohols, acetic acid, n-hexane and ammonium acetate was studied. The solvation interaction and ion-dipole interaction were also investigated. The contents of phospholipids in soybean, sunflower, pean… Show more

“…Plant lipids determined included neutral lipids, phospholipids and fatty acids (Bai et al, 2010;Guo et al, 2005;Rizov and Doulis, 2001). Armitage et al (2012) proposed that phospholipids may dominate the contribution of total lipid to an organism's sorption capacity for PFASs due to their zwitterionic properties, which are similar to those of protein.…”

“…The separation method presented here was based on the NACE method described by Guo et al [25], using a separation medium based on a 3:2 solution, by volume, of ACN and 2-propanol with ammonium acetate as electrolyte. However some modifications of this separation medium were required.…”

“…For instance, solubility which would have been an issue for analyzing the following compounds in aqueous media, is overcome by performing NACE: sertindole [19], phospholipids [56], tanshinones [67] or steroidal alkaloids [79,81]. A recent communication by Hansen and Sheribah [18] reported the analysis of bromazepam and its related impurities by aqueous CE, MECK, MEEKC and NACE.…”
