“…Furthermore, although it failed to reach statistical significance, our data support previously published trends towards a poorer overall, disease-free and disease-specific survival (OS, DFS and DSS, respectively) in SLNB +patients compared to those without disease. 5,29,30 These observations support the feasibility and utility of pathology centralisation in SLNB in OSCC. As SLNB becomes more widely available, more pathology hubs will be required to avoid overreliance on existing centralised services.…”

“…Two authors individually collected data from included articles in forms commensurate with each other. Diagnostic accuracy, represented by DOR, summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curve, and area under the curve (AUC), was calculated 1,5,11–102 . DOR was calculated as (true positive [TP]/false positive [FP])/(false negative [FN]/true negative [TN]) to assess diagnostic accuracy with 95% confidence intervals (CIs).…”

“…In our study the prevalence of occult lymph node metastases consisting of both patients with invaded SLN (n = 8) and patients with later cervical lymph node metastases (considered as false negative SLNB, n = 2) was 14%, which is slightly lower than that reported by other groups (20%-30%). 2,4,5 Previous studies of SLNB at our hospital reported occult metastases in 27% of patients during 2000-2001 19 and 22% during 2002-2005. 20 Two patients had recurrence of cervical lymph nodes, both of whom had clear SLNB and neither had local recurrence.…”

“…[1][2][3] Regardless of current advanced imaging techniques, occult metastases are detected in up to 20%-30% of T1-T2N0 oral carcinomas. 2,4,5 Improved imaging techniques with contrastenhanced computed tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have been noted to increase the rate of detection of lymph node metastases. 6 The current accepted practice is to do an elective neck dissection (END) when the risk of nodal metastasis is estimated to exceed 20%.…”
