Sensory Processing Sensitivity

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to examine the factor structure of a Norwegian version of the Highly Sensitive Person Scale (HSPS) and to investigate how sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) is related to personality traits of neuroticism, extraversion, and openness and to subjective health complaints (SHC) in a sample of 167 undergraduate psychology students. The results showed that the variance in a shortened version of the HSPS was best described by three separate factors: ease of excitation (EOE), aesthet… Show more

“…Points on the HSPS which fell in the selected clusters are very similar to the factors in Smolewska at al. (10), Evans and Rothbart (16), and Listou Grimen and Diseth (19). The С18 cluster corresponds to the 'Low Sensory Threshold' subscale, it consists of 4 items.…”

“…The variation in the factor solutions of the sensitivity construct can be explained by: 1) inherent limits of factor analysis as a procedure which is based on excluding 'weak' factor load data, and 2) the quality of the method (scale of sensitivity). In (10,16,19,20) the models that were used as baseline were not fully valid statistically; rather they fit better than the one-factor model suggested by Aron (16) stress that their choice of a sensitivity model was based on a conceptual criterion. According to Aron and Aron (1) the popular three-component solution for the SPS structure cannot be considered final.…”

“…Анализ структуры шкалы показал, что часть ее пун-ктов имеет слабые корреляции с генеральным фактором и частными шкалами опросника, что было показано K.A. Smolewska et al (2006), C. Booth et al (2015), H. Listou Grimen, A. Diseth (2016. Исключенные нами 8 пунктов опросника (№ 6, 12, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 27) попали в число «слабых» и у других авторов: пункт № 6 («Вы более других чувствительны к действию кофеина» исключен практически у всех авторов, см.…”
