Sensorless control of three phase BLDC motor drive with improved flux observer

Abstract: A Flux linkage observer (FLO) based sensorless estimation method for permanent magnet BLDC motor based on the integration of back EMF, with a simple start-up method, is proposed here. The rotor position is extracted from the rotor flux information using system equations. The estimated rotor position is improved using a phase locked loop structure which also uses a PI controller for speed estimation. Since the initial rotor position is not known, a simple start up strategy is also introduced. Using a ramp speed… Show more

“…These filters introduce a time delay dependable on the rotor speed and, thus, affect the dynamic performance of the drive system. Other sensorless methods need extensive offline tuning of observers to estimate the position accurately [27][28][29]. In [30], an observer based on offline data of the back-EMF is used to provide the necessary position information.…”

“…Numerous sensorless control algorithms for BLDC have been reported over the past decades, and they are of great reference value for DSEM. The followings are mainly included: zero-crossing point detection of back electromotive force (BEMF), testing pulses injection, states observer and flux linkages based techniques [8][9][10][11][12]. All the aforementioned methods have their own advantages; however, BEMF-based method is the most widely used one especially at medium and high speeds [8].…”
