Sensor Web Design Studies for Realtime Dynamic Congestion Pricing

Abstract: Traffic Congestion is a multi-billion dollar national problem and worsening every year with population growth and increase in freight traffic. We present a model for realistic simulation studies to mitigate congestion in urban areas using dynamic congestion pricing on express toll lanes. Specifically, we identify and address the design issues needed to develop a real time event driven sensor web observing system for traffic monitoring that provides dynamic congestion pricing. To assess the feasibility of this … Show more

“…The user who requests the targeted observation should be notified of its status by messages. Traffic congestion pricing is one of the applications that use the measurements returned from traffic sensors [31]. The message of congestion status should be broadcast to relevant toll stations for pricing the toll accordingly.…”

“…Examples of other uses of STK for UAV systems in real-time operations and post-mission analysis can be found online at http://www.agi.com/solutions/specializedAreas/uav/. Some complementary work in building Earth Observing simulators for meteorology is also underway (Higgins et al, 2005;Kalb et al, 2005;Halem et al, 2007;Seablom et al, 2007). The end product of these studies will be a "sensor web simulator" (SWS) that would objectively quantify the scientific return of a fully functional model-driven meteorological sensor web.…”
