Sensitivity and variability of Presage dosimeter formulations in sheet form with application to SBRT and SRS QA

Abstract: The Presage dosimeter in sheet form was capable of detecting radiation over all tested photon energies and chemical concentrations. The best sensitivity and photostability of the dosimeter were achieved with 2.5% wt. LMG and 8.2% wt. bromoform. Scanner used should not emit any UV radiation as it will expose the dosimeter, as with the Epson 10000 XL scanner. Presage dosimeter in this form was sensitive enough for use in SRS and SBRT QA. The lower gamma pass rate for Presage compared to Gafchromic film can be at… Show more

“…Dumas and Rakowski noted issues with the use of the Epson flatbed scanner, citing difficulty obtaining clear readout scans due to the presence of bubbles and sheet irregularities and concern with UV light exposure to the sheets from the Epson scanner . They also reported poor dose resolution and low sensitivity, resulting in a poor signal to noise ratio.…”

“…Recent work by Dumas and Rakowski introduced a sheet form of single‐use in‐house manufactured Presage and evaluated it in the context of applications for radiosurgery QA . The sheets were 1 mm thick and compatible with readout by a flat‐bed‐scanner.…”

“…In 2015, a published study by Dumas et al shows the potential use of PRESAGE sheets for dosimetry. 8 However, in the study, the sensitivity, signal to noise ratio, and temporal stability of the PRESAGE sheets with a different formulation were insufficient for its use in clinical applications. Furthermore, this study did not provide a comprehensive dosimetric characterization of the sheets.…”

“…Therefore, unlike radiochromic film, the accuracy of the measurements does not heavily depend on the calibration process. In 2015, a published study by Dumas et al shows the potential use of PRESAGE sheets for dosimetry . However, in the study, the sensitivity, signal to noise ratio, and temporal stability of the PRESAGE sheets with a different formulation were insufficient for its use in clinical applications.…”
