Sensitivity Analysis of Major Drilling Parameters on Cuttings Transport during Drilling Highly-inclined Wells

Abstract: In this study, a layered cuttings transport model is developed for high-angle and horizontal wells, which can be used for incompressible non-Newtonian fluids as well as compressible non-Newtonian fluids (i.e., foams). The effects of major drilling parameters, such as flow rate, rate of penetration, fluid density, viscosity, gas ratio, cuttings size, cuttings density, wellbore inclination and eccentricity of the drillsting on cuttings transport efficiency are analyzed. The major findings from this study are, th… Show more

“…[18] и И. Озбауоглу c соавт. [19], разработали свои оригинальные модели. В итоге сравнение с имеющимися экспериментальными результатами показало, что их модели способны предсказать изменения толщины слоя шлама с погрешностью меньше 15 % и перепад давления с погрешностью меньше 20 % при концентричном положении буровых труб.…”

“…Inadequate cuttings transport capacity may cause serious problems, such as pipe sticking, higher torque and drag, and bit balling, etc. Many experimental studies and field experience showed that the effective cuttings transport depends largely on annulus velocity of drilling fluid, drilling fluid rheology, deviation angle, drillstring rotating speed, penetration rate, eccentricity of drillstring, cutting size [1][2][3][4], however, blade shape of stabilizer is a very influential factor, but often overlooked in hydraulic design and drilling operations. Stabilizer is a drillstring sub which is mounted on the top of bit and used with drill collar.…”
