Sense‐Think‐Act Framework for Intelligent Building Energy Management

Abstract: The realization of smart and energetically efficient buildings is contingent upon the successful implementation of two tasks that occur on distinct phases component. An illustrative application of the proposed methodology in an office building is provided. MOTIVATIONEffective utilization of energy in buildings is receiving significant attention. This interest is justified on the observation that buildings account for a significant portion of end-energy use: in Europe 40% of the total energy consumed is used fo… Show more

“…Nowadays, sustainable design is at the cutting edge of design of tall buildings . Sustainability can mean different things from generation of green energy on the site to water conservation and reuse to minimizing the carbon emission or footprint of the structure . Consequently, a multicriteria optimization is advocated where several different criteria are defined simultaneously such as (a) minimum cost, (b) minimum carbon emission, and (c) minimum drift.…”

“…With the world's emphasis on clean energy, hydropower is becoming increasingly more important, especially in China (Cahill et al, ; Katsigarakis, Kontes, Giannakis, & Rovas, ; Wang, Liu, Yuan, & Chen, ). However, the devastation caused by a hydraulic engineering accident is extremely serious.…”

“…Although our methodology is based on a simulation for the reasons explained above, these data have been used to validate the model and ensure it captures the building performance both from an energetic performance, but also from an indoor thermal comfort perspective. More details on the simulation model details and its validation can be found in [17,52].…”
