Senescence-associated Long Non-coding RNA (SALNR) Delays Oncogene-induced Senescence through NF90 Regulation

Abstract: Background:The role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in senescence is little known. Results: Senescence-associated lncRNA (SALNR) expression is reduced during senescence. SALNR delays oncogene-induced senescence through suppressing NF90 nucleolus translocation. Conclusion: lncRNA SALNR plays an important role in senescence. Significance: We profiled lncRNAs in senescence and provided novel insights into the role of lncRNAs in senescence.

“…Additionally, in human fetal lung diploid fibroblasts (2BS), it has been found that a senescence‐associated lncRNA interacted with the nuclear factor of activated T‐cells 90 kDa (NF90), a RNA binding protein suppressing miRNA biogenesis. Inhibition of NF90 may enhance the expressions of senescence‐associated miRNAs . Furthermore, mitochondrial DNA‐transcribed lncRNA (ASncmtRNA‐2) also played a vital role in age‐associated cardiovascular diseases by participating in the cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase, possibly through the production of hsa‐miR‐4485 and hsa‐miR‐1973 …”

“…Furthermore, SALNR was observed to be down-regulated in both replicative and OIS [82]. It interacts with NF90, a nuclear protein that prevents the biogenesis of senescence-associated miRNAs [83].…”

“…Thus, SALNR antagonizes NF90 translocation into nucleolus and rescues its inhibitory activity on senescence-associated miRNA expression. Their data suggest that lncRNA SALNR controls cellular senescence through modulating NF90 localization (103). …”
