Seminoma metastasized to the prostate: A case report and literature review

Abstract: The testicular seminomas are germ-cell tumors which account for approximately 50% of all testicular tumors. Most primary testicular germ cell tumors metastasize through a lymphatic system in a predictable pattern with the retroperitoneal lymph nodes being the most common initial metastatic site. Hematological metastasis to the distant organs is less common, and except for pulmonary metastasis, changes the classification from good to intermediate prognosis. Metastasis of testicular seminoma to the prostate is a… Show more

“…If metastases occur beyond the lymph nodes, the lungs are commonly affected via haematogenous spread. 5 However, in our case, the pattern of spread was unusual. There were no signs of active metastasis in the retroperitoneal lymph nodes, but there was secondary localization of the seminoma to the adrenal gland.…”

“…To date, 10 cases of prostatic metastasis from testicular cancer have been reported 2–11 . The pathological findings of the primary testicular lesions were seminoma and non‐seminoma in seven and three cases, respectively.…”

“…Testicular germ cell tumors are composed of seminomas and nonseminomas. Seminoma accounts for more than half of the diagnosis of germ cell tumors [ 1 ]. Most seminomas are localized to the testis, but some tend to present with lymph node metastases, mainly to the retroperitoneum [ 2 ].…”
