AbstractsA semiempirical molecular orbital (MO) method is outlined that is designed for correlation and prediction of the spectra and other properties of complex molecules. Within the ZDO approximation, the reactive (a-bonding and nonbonding) electrons are treated explicitly considering the o electrons as an unreactive static potential. The electronic repulsion integrals are evaluated using the multipole expansion formulas, which allow the characterization of each orbital by specification of its quadrupole moment, from which all two-center repulsion integrals involving it would be computed. A preliminary application of the all reactive electron self-consistent field (ARE-SCF-CI) MO method is made to organic carbonyls as well as some selected cyanine dyes. The predicted n --f a * and T + a * transition energies and intensities are in good agreement with experimental data. The calculated ionization potentials are 0.2-0.7 eV lower than the observed values. The present method, although it requires further possible refinements, bridges the gap between the simplicity of the PPP method and the required overall interpretation of the electronic properties.On fait une esquisse d'une mithode de type MO semi-empirique, qui a CtC construite pour traiter la correlation et pour predire les spectres et d'autres propriitts de molecules organiques complexes. Dans le cadre de I'approximation ZDO les electrons rtactifs (de type a et non-liant) sont traites explicitement, tandis que les electrons o sont consider& comme un potentiel statique non-reactif. Les integrales de repulsion electronique sont calculies par des formules obtenues du developpement multipolaire, ce qui permet une caracttrisation de chaque orbitale par specification de son moment quadrupolaire. Une application prkliminaire de cette methode a i t 6 faite a des carbonyles organiques ainsi qu'a quelques colorants d e cyanine. Les energies d e transition n + a * et a --f a * et les intensites prtdites par le calcul sont en bon accord avec les donntes expirimentales. Les potentiels d'ionisation calcules sont plus bas que les valeurs observees de 0.2-0.7 eV. Bien qu'un nombre d'amtliorations soient necessaires, la mtthode proposee forme un pont entre la simplicit6 de la mtthode PPP et I'interpretation qu'il faut des proprietts klectroniques.Eine halbempirische Mo-Methode wird kurz beschrieben, die fur die Behandlung der Korrelation und die Vorhersagung von Spektren und anderen Eigenschaften komplexer organischer Molekule konstruiert worden ist. Im Rahmen der zDo-Naherung werden die reaktiven (von Typ a und nichtbindend) Elektronen explizit behandelt, wahrend die o-Elektronen wie ein nichtreaktives statisches Potential betrachtet werden. Die elektronischen Abstossungsintegrale werden mittels der Multipolentwicklung berechnet, was eine Charakterisierung jedes Orbitals durch Spezifikation seines Quadrupolmoments erlaubt.
