“…Interestingly, they found a specific effect of mood state in semantic fluency, supporting the interest of VF task studies in exploring BD symptomatology, particularly to understand the pathophysiological processes underlying verbal deficits, like the neurodegenerative mechanisms underlying some BD evolution subtypes . Other studies have used VF tasks to focus on the executive function deficits in depression, but some authors consider that the role of executive dysfunction in this pathology is overestimated . Fluency‐related cognitive deficits are likely an indicator of a generalized impairment (e.g., cognitive slowing) rather than executive function deficits .…”

“…A separate SZ group rating was not conducted particularly due to the preserved perception towards the valence and arousal levels in emotional word shown by SZ subjects in studies such as Bonin et al ( 2003 ), Herbener et al ( 2009 ) and Jalenques et al ( 2013 ). Furthermore, separate valence and arousal patient ratings were not performed in several emotional Stroop studies (Demily et al 2010 ; Roux et al 2010 ; Wiffen et al 2014 ) and word-related studies (Klumpp et al 2010 ; Strauss et al 2011 ) with SZ subjects. Nonetheless, it should be noted that studies such as Cohen and Minor ( 2010 ) and Llerena et al ( 2012 ) reported differential valence and arousal related emotional experience in SZ subjects.…”

“…Distributional approaches may introduce additional noise into the computation of semantic indices resulting in more variability in measurements and, thus, would need to be further validated. The analysis presented in this manuscript does not take into account depression as a concomitant condition with dementia that may also affect semantic memory and SVF performance (Brunet et al, 2011; Callahan et al, 2015; Klumpp et al, 2010). We plan to investigate effects of depression in future work.…”
