Abstract. Note: This is a preprint version that deviates slightly from the published version of this paper. Data-services are applications in charge of retrieving certain data when they are called. They are found in different communities such as the Internet Of Things, Cloud Computing, Big Data, etc. So, there is a real need to discover how can an application that requires some data automatically find a data-service which is providing it. To our knowledge, the problem of automatically discovering these data-services is still open. To make a step forward in this direction, we propose an ontology-based framework to address this problem. In our framework, input and output values of the request are mapped into concepts of the domain ontology. Then, data-services specify how to obtain the output from the input by stating the relationship between the mapped concepts of the ontology.

Abstract:The vision for the Internet of Things (IoT) demands that material objects acquire communications and computation capabilities and become able to automatically identify themselves through standard protocols and open systems, using the Internet as their foundation. Yet, several challenges still must be addressed for this vision to become a reality. A core ingredient in such development is the ability of heterogeneous devices to communicate adaptively so as to make the best of limited spectrum availability and cope with competition which is inevitable as more and more objects connect to the system. This survey provides an overview of current developments in this area, placing emphasis on wireless sensor networks that can provide IoT capabilities for material objects and techniques that can be used in the context of systems employing low-power versions of the Internet Protocol (IP) stack. The survey introduces a conceptual model that facilitates the identification of opportunities for adaptation in each layer of the network stack. After a detailed discussion of specific approaches applicable to particular layers, we consider how sharing information across layers can facilitate further adaptation. We conclude with a discussion of future research directions.

Abstract. The arrival of ubiquitous computing and the increasing use of mobile devices can geta lot of information about the user. This information is used by some applications to adapt its functionality to the user itself and the surrounding environment. In this way the applications need to become more autonomous and less each time user interaction. However, the computational cost, battery consumption and the complex process of obtaining useful information from sensory data means that many applications do not use this information in a massive way. This research proposes a framework and a middleware for the development, implementation and communication of contextual applications. Using this architecture allows communication between applications so that they can share applications without contextual information should both generate. Thanks to definition of a SOA platform,subscription to services provided by other applications is possible through the middleware.
