Self-Threading of a Poly(ethylene glycol) Chain in a Cyclodextrin-Ring:  Control of the Exchange Dynamics by Chain Length

Abstract: Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-substituted cyclodextrins (CDs) with different chain lengths have been synthesized. PEG-substituted CDs formed self-threading complexes in aqueous solutions, and the conformational exchange dynamics between self-threading and dethreading could be regulated by its chain length.

“…Therefore, a mixed self‐assembled monolayer (mSAM) strategy involving both L1 and a hydrophilic ligand L2 was employed to prepare water‐soluble hybrid AuNPs. L2 bears a polyethylene glycol moiety that has been proven to be unable to complex with the β‐CD ring 13. Upon optimization, an appropriate molar ratio ( L1 / L2 =1:7, see the Supporting Information, Figure S3) facilitated the formation of an mSAM on the AuNP surface.…”

“…To further probe the nature of these interactions, b-cyclodextrin was added to L-100/X-45 aqueous blends. As mentioned earlier, b-cyclodextrin and its derivatives have been shown to disrupt hydrophobic interactions in solution [38][39][40][41][42][43][44]. In our studies, b-cyclodextrin was added at 1.0 wt% concentration to a series of solutions having HEAT L-100 between 0.1 and 4.0 wt% concentration.…”

“…Inoue and colleagues, connected β‐CD and cinnamoyl moiety carrying oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG), in which the β‐CD moiety included strongly the cinnamoyl moiety. When a half equivalent of 1‐adamantanecarboxylic acid (AdCA) was added to the β‐CD modified with cinnamoyl OEG, the exchange between inclusion and dissociation states was observed by NMR (Scheme ).…”
