Self‐Organized Temporal Criticality: Bottom‐Up Resilience versus Top‐Down Vulnerability

Abstract: We propose a social model of spontaneous self-organization generating criticality and resilience, called Self-Organized Temporal Criticality (SOTC). The criticality-induced long-range correlation favors the societal benefit and can be interpreted as the social system becoming cognizant of the fact that altruism generates societal benefit. We show that when the spontaneous bottom-up emergence of altruism is replaced by a top-down process, mimicking the leadership of an elite, the crucial events favoring the sys… Show more

“…This interpretation may lead to an agreement with that adopted, for instance by Fels [48] where the belief is that the transfer of information and the intelligence itself are based on quantum coherence [28,29]. In our perspective, however, the origin of cognition is a process of self-organization [20,21] of the components of the seeds corresponding to water-induced germination. This process of self-organization generates both crucial events and quantum coherence.…”

“…Using the concept of intermediate asymptotics [42], we evaluate the slope of S(l) in an intermediate region between the region of short values of l and the region of large values of l. The region of short values of l is a region of transition to complexity. The region of large values of l is either a region of transition to ordinary statistics [20][21][22] or a region where the scarcity of events makes the evaluation of complexity inaccurate. The errors (given by MSE) of Table I measure the inaccuracy associated in determining the intermediate asymptotics.…”

“…For instance, Kahneman's bounded rationality approach has been reviewed in [25]. In [26], a social model of spontaneous self-organization generating criticality and resilience, called Self-Organized Temporal Criticality, has been proposed. The approach of Kahneman's bounded rationality requires the use of fractional derivatives in time, in the same way as Caputo fractional derivatives in our current paper.…”

“…Here we stress that the research lines of this paper are determined by the recent form of self-organization called self-organized temporal criticality (SOTC) (Mahmoodi et al, 2017 , 2018a , b ; Mahmoodi et al, to be submitted). This form of criticality has been proposed for the purpose of establishing a new view of the field of Evolutionary Game Theory.…”
