“…7,46 Almost 60% to 90% of adults are asymptomatic CMV carriers, and it is also possible that a focal, clinically occult reactivation of the virus could occur as an incidental finding in surveillance polypectomy specimens, but the absence of classic inclusions on routine hematoxylin stain and the uniformly negative results on immunohistochemical stain, a more sensitive and specific method for the detection of CMV, essentially excludes this diagnosis. In most of cases, CMV disease is due to reactivation of latent infection in the setting of an altered immune status; but on rare occasion, it can also occur in an apparently immunocompetent adult.…”
