Self-hydrogen transfer hydrogenolysis of β-O-4 linkages in lignin catalyzed by MIL-100(Fe) supported Pd–Ni BMNPs

Abstract: A MIL-100(Fe) supported Pd–Ni BMNP catalyst has been fabricated, and the catalyst exhibits superior catalytic performance toward intramolecular transfer hydrogenolysis of lignin model compounds and organosolv lignin.

“…Since the discovery of redox neutral C-O bond cleavage using Pd/C catalyst [121], several Pd-Ni catalysts with different Pd:Ni ratio had been demonstrated to exhibit hydrogenolysis of lignin derived model compound without the use of hydrogen gas [121]. Both the synergistic effects between the metal nanoparticles and between the metal and the metal organic framework (MOF) supports are crucial factors to optimal catalytic performance.…”

“…Based on our previous experience on design of outstanding catalysts for green and sustainable future, we envisage that development of a catalytic system based on bimetallic nanoparticles maybe essential for C−O activation reaction. Toward this end, herein, a Pd−Ni BMNPs catalyst was fabricated and its catalytic performance for the coupling reactions between ethers and Grignard reagents was evaluated.…”

“…We started our investigations by reacting 2‐methoxynaphthalene with MeMgBr, Pd−Ni BMNPs was initially selected as the catalyst in light of pioneering work of Chakraborti et al ,. and our previous experience . SiO 2 was used as the support at the outset of our study due to its easy availability.…”

“…With our interest in the exploring nanometal catalysts for the depolymerization of lignin, [19] herein we report an one-pot Co@CN catalyzed selective oxidative dissociation of lignin and lignin model compounds with different linkages like β-O-4, α-O-4 and β-1 in methanol in the presence of ambient pressure O 2 under mild conditions (383 K) without the assistance of any acid, base, ligand or noble metal.…”
