Objectives: Recovery from drug addiction often poses challenges for the recovering person. The coping mechanisms employed by these individuals to resist temptations and manage stress play a key role in the healing process. This study was conducted to explore the coping strategies or techniques that individuals with addiction use to handle stress and temptation while undergoing treatment.Methods: A qualitative meta-synthesis approach was utilized to critically evaluate relevant qualitative research. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines were used for article selection, with these standards applied to 4 academic databases: Scopus, PubMed, ProQuest, and CINAHL. The present review included studies published between 2014 and 2023, selected based on pre-established inclusion criteria. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme Qualitative Studies Checklist. This review was registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) under the registration number CRD42024497789.Results: The analysis of 13 qualifying qualitative articles revealed 5 major themes illustrating the coping mechanisms employed in the pursuit of recovery by individuals who use drugs. These themes include seeking social support, as well as psychological coping strategies, spiritual experiences, professional interventions, and the enhancement of awareness.Conclusions: Among individuals with drug addiction, coping mechanisms are crucial for resisting stress and temptations throughout the recovery process. Healthcare professionals, as medical specialists, can establish more thorough and effective plans to support these patients on their path to recovery.

The religious learning institution [pondok] is a common form of traditional Islamic educational institution in the archipelagic areas of Malaysia, Indonesia, and southern Thailand. It has been widely known and established, especially in Kelantan, Malaysia, for many years. It is regarded as a significant learning institution since it focuses on lifelong learning concepts. However, there are some crises faced by learners who study at a pondok. These need to be addressed as the learning institution receives negative perceptions from society in general. This study aimed to analyse the perception of the role of religious learning institutions and how this contributes to spreading knowledge so that society can get a better understanding of the concept of learning in a pondok. This study uses both quantitative and qualitative methods; questionnaires were distributed and focus group discussions were conducted among selected research participants. There were 121 research participants for the quantitative studies and five groups for the qualitative study. This study used a purposive sampling method and the participants were selected according to whether they were willing to support the development of the pondok and whether they had experience living near a religious institution. The study revealed that the pondok requires a lot of improvements, especially in spreading religious knowledge and having a good relationship with society. It is also suggested that a proper guideline be provided for every religious learning institution in Kelantan so that it becomes more systematic. It was revealed that the potential of the pondok is to ensure that society gains benefits from these religious institutions. The significance of the current study lies in its analysis of the quality of teaching and learning in religious institutions so that they meet international educational qualification standards.

Indonesia still has a fairly high rate of drug abuse. Some limitations in drug management strategies in Indonesia, such as obstacles to intervention in prisons and lack of involvement in recovery from addicts, can be overcome by the existence of alternative drug treatment strategies. One of the recommended rehabilitation methods is sponsorship from Narcotics Anonymous. This method allows the involvement of the addict in the recovery process from drug addiction and can trigger the desire of the addict to continue the recovery process with social support provided through sponsorship relationships. This study aims to understand the dynamics of the experiences of individuals undergoing sponsorship in the Narcotics Anonymous community for drug addiction recovery. A single case study with an in-depth interview method was conducted on 42-year-old individuals undergoing drug recovery, as well as having experience participating in Narcotics Anonymous and having sponsorship relationships, both as sponsors and sponsors. In-depth interviews referred to four themes emerging from participants' experiences: (1) the main problem of addiction is behavior that forms with drug use, (2) opening the ears and expressing the heart can have therapeutic effects during recovery, (3) learning from sponsors during recovery, and (4) sharing experiences as sponsors is a form of recovery. The results of the study found that the dynamics of sponsorship relationships in NA become a social support that has therapeutic value for its members, facilitates abstinence, and raises positive expectations in recovery. As sponsors, participants who provide support also find it helpful in undergoing recovery through helper therapy principles. It can be said that the sponsorship relationship as one of the social supports in drug handling is felt to provide many benefits and can effectively help the recovery process of drug addiction so that it can be considered for mental health practitioners as an alternative therapy in handling drug addiction.
