Self-Healing Behaviour of Pre-Cracked POFA-Concretes in Different Curing Conditions

Abstract: The investigation of the effect of curing conditions on self-healing of pre-cracked concrete containing palm oil fuel ash (POFA)-concrete is presented. Concrete grade 30 was used and POFA cement replaced 10%, 20% and 30% of the total weight of ordinary Portland cement [1].The compressive strength was tested after 7, 28, 60 and 90 days cured in water in order to investigate the strength development of the POFA-concretes. In addition, the pre-crack (hairline crack) concrete was examined under compression load to… Show more

“…Due to the difficulty of investigating the state of internal cracks, non-destructive tests have also been proposed to evaluate self-healing, since they can give an indirect measure of several properties. (113)(114)(115), Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (116)(117)(118) and Acoustic Emissions (118)(119)(120).…”

“…The consolidated welds are solid state phase in nature and do not show fusion welding defects such as lack of filler and shielding gas. The distortion is significantly less than that caused by any fusion welding technique [4][5][6][7][8]. Typically, after the welding takes place, the properties of the base material will be lost due to the high temperature during the welding process, and this has the possibility to change the strength of the material [9].…”

“…Due the limited utilization of POFA, its quantity will increase annually. This unmanageable situation of POFA will lead to environmental problems [1][2][3]. However, there are researchers who have been using POFA as one of the pozzolanic materials in concrete production [4,5].…”
