Self‐Efficacy: Changing the Tide of Evidence‐Based Practice

Abstract: Aims:The specific aim for this study was to describe differences in evidence-based practice (EBP) and self-efficacy in frontline RNs. “…Regarding H1(a and b), education and training had a positive and significant link with task self-efficacy (β = 0.31, p ≤ 0.01) and perceived threat (β = 0.17, p ≤ 0.01). A similar trend of findings has also been noted in the existing pool of literature (Boswell et al 2019;Shin et al 2019). Thus, H1(a and b) were accepted.…”

“…Self-efficacy is defined as the level of confidence that one has to perform a task effectively (Bandura, 2006; Hernández-Padilla et al, 2016). High levels of self-efficacy have been linked to greater personal motivation and higher effort expenditure towards carrying out an activity in the best possible way (Boswell et al, 2020; Cope et al, 2020; Orgun & Karaoz, 2014). Evidence suggests that higher levels of self-efficacy are associated not only with skills acquisition (Brannagan et al, 2013) but also with making behavioral changes towards achieving a goal after receiving an educational intervention (Grønning et al, 2014; Jiang et al, 2019).…”

On the contrary, low levels of self-efficacy have been considered a barrier to task performance and goal achievement (Boswell et al; 2020; Cope et al, 2020; Hernández-Padilla et al, 2016; Nuttall, 2018). Assessing nurses’ self-efficacy can contribute to highlight their educational needs and inform the development of new educational programs in nurse prescribing (Hall et al, 2020; Wilson et al, 2015).…”

“…Distance education delivers education to teachers and learners geographically distant from each other using different technologies (satellite, video, audio, graphics, computer, multimedia technology) [1,2]. The global epidemic of coronavirus disease (COVID- 19), which started in the Wuhan province of China in December 2019 and affected the whole world and declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization [3], has also accelerated the increasing trend of remote / internet-based training [4].…”
