Self-efficacy and outcome expectations in cardiac rehabilitation: Associations with women’s physical activity.

Abstract: Women in trajectories with higher task and barrier self-efficacy and outcome expectations are more likely to be active, whereas the opposite is true for women with lower efficacy and outcome expectancies. As such, it is critical that health-care practitioners incorporate strategies into their CR programs or professional practice after CR to increase women's confidence in engaging in PA, overcome barriers to engage in PA, and promote positive outcomes related to PA to increase their PA levels.

“…Perceived health competence is closely related to self-efficacy, and cardiac rehabilitation programs have proven effective at increasing self-efficacy and a variety of other psychological constructs[40–47]. Cardiovascular patients with low perceived health competence could be encouraged to enroll in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation programs after discharge.…”

“…Sur le plan théorique, ce type d'approche permet de révéler des patrons de relations entre certains construits psychologiques, et leur fréquence d'apparition. Sur le plan pratique, la synthèse d'un ensemble d'indicateurs multivariés en un seul groupe permet une classification des individus, et simplifie ainsi l'individualisation des interventions (voir dans le domaine de la réhabilitation cardiaque, Blanchard, Arthur, & Gunn, 2015).…”

“…Due to the explorative nature, the study is probably underpowered to detect smaller differences, and is influenced greatly by outliers. In addition, it must be noted that physical activity is also depending on personal habits and character, referred to as self-efficacy [32,33], and the motivational support from the environment (relatives and friends). Patients who were rather sedentary before the surgery will probably abide by this lifestyle afterwards.…”
