Self-diffraction of continuous laser radiation in a disperse medium with absorbing particles

Abstract. This research presents the results of investigation of laser polarization fluorescence of biological layers (histological sections of the myocardium). The polarized structure of autofluorescence imaging layers of biological tissues was detected and investigated. Proposed in this work is the model for describing formation of polarization inhomogeneity in autofluorescent images of biological optically anisotropic layers. On its basis, analytically and experimentally tested is the method of laser autofluorescent polarimetry. Analyzed has been the effectiveness of this method in the postmortem diagnosis of infarction. The objective criteria (statistical moments) of differentiation of autofluorescent images of histological sections myocardium have been determined. The operational characteristics (sensitivity, specificity, accuracy) of this technique have been ascertained.

Azimuthally invariant phase tomography of optically anisotropic sections of biological tissues

Abstract. Considered in this work is the theoretical background of the azimuthally stable method of Jones matrix mapping applied to histological sections of uterine neck biopsy based on spatial-frequency selection of the mechanisms responsible for linear and circular birefringence. The comparative results of measuring the coordinate distributions of the complex degree of mutual anisotropy formed by fibrillar networks of myosin and collagen fibrils of uterine neck tissue being in different pathological states -pre-cancer (dysplasia) and cancer (adenocarcinoma) -have been shown. The values and ranges of the change in the statistical (moments of the 1 st to 4 th orders) parameters of the complex degree of mutual anisotropy of coordinate distributions have been studied. The objective criteria for diagnostics of pathology and differentiation of its severity degree have been determined.

Differentiation of Mueller-matrix invariants of biological tissues fibrillar networks with different phase and amplitude anisotropy

Abstract. The work is aimed at investigation of diagnostic efficiency of a new azimuthally stable Mueller-matrix method for analysis of laser autofluorescence coordinate distributions corresponding to biological tissue histological sections. A new model of generalized optical anisotropy observed in biological tissue protein networks has been proposed to study the processes of laser autofluorescence. The influence of complex mechanisms of both phase anisotropy (linear birefringence and optical activity) and linear (circular) dichroism has been taken into account. The interrelations between the azimuthally stable Mueller-matrix elements characterizing laser autofluorescence and different mechanisms of optical anisotropy have been ascertained. The statistic analysis of coordinate distributions inherent to these Mueller-matrix rotation invariants has been proposed. Thereupon the quantitative criteria (statistic moments of the 1 st to 4 th orders) of differentiation of histological sections of uterus wall tumor -group 1 (dysplasia) and group 2 (adenocarcinoma) have been found.
