This study aimed to evaluate the effects of verbal and written feedback in clinical midwifery placement on students’ self-assessed performance and their self-assessment ability. This three-group quasi-experimental study was conducted on 120 students. Participants in the control group received clinical education through the routine method, while in the feedback groups received either verbal or written feedback methods on the basis of the sandwich feedback model. In the last day of clinical education, a checklist was simultaneously filled out by participants and a second instructor. There was significant direct correlation between the scores of performance assessment by both the second instructor and students in the control group ( r = .38, p = .01), the verbal feedback group ( r = .63, p < .001), and the written feedback group ( r = .74, p < .001). The rates of student–instructor agreement in the control, verbal feedback, and written feedback groups were 32.5%, 70%, and 77.5%, respectively. Feedback is effective in significantly improving students’ self-assessment ability.

IntroductionAttaining a commendable level of quality in an educational program is not just important but imperative. Hence, this study was undertaken to assess the quality of the general dentistry program for students in Iran, utilizing the comprehensive Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) evaluation model.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was carried out among dentistry students in the 5th to 13th semesters at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences in Ahvaz, Iran. Data collection for this research utilized a questionnaire designed in alignment with the CIPP Evaluation Model. The perspectives of students were sought in assessing the four domains of context, input, process, and product. Statistical analysis of the data was conducted using ANOVA and T-test methods.ResultsThe mean scores of the educational program were as fallow: Content (2.76 ± 0.58), input (2.71 ± 0.65), process (2.51 ± 0.68), and product (3.31 ± 0.68). Overall, the quality of dentistry program was undesirable in all dimensions. Among these dimensions, “product” had the highest mean, while “process” had the lowest mean score.ConclusionThe results of this study indicate that the general dentistry educational program were Undesirable in all domains. The CIPP evaluation framework assists decision-makers and policymakers in determining the continuation or renewal of a training program by identifying its strengths and weaknesses.

IntroductionThis study evaluated the self‐assessment skills of third‐year dental students regarding their performance in complete removable prosthodontics (CRP) preclinical course.Methods and MaterialsThis cross‐sectional study was conducted on all third‐year dental students attending the International Dental College of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The students were requested to self‐assess their performance in primary impression making, custom tray fabrication, border moulding, final impression making, master cast fabrication, record‐base fabrication and tooth arrangement in CRP preclinical course. The performance of dental students in each step was scored by themselves and their mentors. Data were analysed by the Mann–Whitney U, Pearson's correlation and t‐tests (α = 0.05).ResultsTotally 25 male (55.6%) and 20 female (44.4%) dental students were evaluated. Significant differences were noted between male and female dental students in self‐assessment scores regarding adequate extension of the custom tray (p = .027), the correct position of tray handle (p = .020), visibility of vestibular width and depth on the cast (p = .011), the coincidence of upper and lower midlines (p = .005) and correct orientation of maxillary and mandibular planes in the articulator (p = .036). The mean self‐assessment score of female students was significantly higher than that of male students (p = .01). The scores given by the mentors were not significantly different for male and female students (p = .975). The difference between the self‐assessment score of students and the mentor score was not significant (p = .067) either in males or in females (p > .05).ConclusionUndergraduate dental students favourably self‐assessed their performance in all steps of the preclinical course of CRP, comparable with their mentor assessment.
