Self-assembly of looped triple-stranded helicates

Abstract: The reaction of the organogold metallaligand [(AuC[triple bond]Cbpyl)(2)(mu-Ph(2)P(CH(2))(4)PPh(2))] (bpyl = 2,2'-bipyridin-5-yl) with Fe(2+) or Zn(2+) ions gave helicates where the three ligand strands adopt a unique looped geometry.

“…10) are also used for cation sensing applications. 96 by reaction of (dppb)[Au(CRC(2,2 0 -bipy)] 2 with Fe 2+ and Zn 2+ (Scheme 5) or the complex supramolecular structures reported by Lagunas and co-workers. Some denoted examples are the helicates reported by Vicente and co-workers.…”

“…In this work, these questions are addressed by investigating metal-assisted p-association and -dissociation processes in one step versus multistep formation of carbazole-bridged dinuclear complexes. [24][25][26][27][28][29][30] The carbazole ligand (L) forms a 4:2 complex [(L) 4 À(Zn 2+ ) 2 ] at a molar ratio of zinc ions (Zn 2 + ) to the ligand of 0.50, [31][32][33] which provides the opportunity for p stacking between the carbazole ligands. In the multistep mechanism, the 4:2 complex undergoes a structural transition to a 3:2 complex [(L) 3 À(Zn 2+ ) 2 ] at the higher molar ratio, thereby resulting in dissociation of p stacking between the carbazole ligands.…”

“…Some years ago, Chen and co-workers described the isolation of tetrametallic Au 2 Ln 2 (Ln = lanthanide) arrays formed by the establishment of aurophilic interactions. 42 Very recently, Vicente and co-workers reported the obtention of appealing supramolecular architectures like triple-stranded helicates, 51,52 helical dimers, 53 rigid-rod complexes and coordination oligomers. 54 Noteworthily, all the reported alkynyl gold(I) compounds with pendant polypyridyl moieties mentioned above are supported by mono or diphosphanes as auxiliary ligands, and consequently are able to act as mono or ditopic metallaligands.…”
