Self-assembly of an unpolar enantiomerically pure helicate-type metalla-cryptand

Abstract: Chiral tetraketone ligands are obtained by Claisen-type condensation of 4-bromoacetophenone with the acetone ketal of L-tartraic acid diethylester and lead with gallium(III) or iron(III) ions in self-assembly processes to dinuclear helicate-type cryptands which are able to bind lithium cations.

“…[5] Recently we described that the bis-b-diketonate ligand H 2 1 (Figure 1) forms dinuclear triple-stranded helicates [(1) 3 M 2 ] with galliumA C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (iii) and ironA C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (iii), regardless of the metal:ligand ratio indicating a strict self-assembly. [6] Whereas with nickel(ii) ions, different di-or trinuclear complexes can be obtained at different ligand:metal ratios. [7] The strict self-assembly of the gallium complex [(1) 3 Ga 2 ] is assumed to be due to the high predisposition of 1 for helicate formation.…”
