Self‐assembly of alginate/polyethyleneimine multilayer onto magnetic microspheres as an effective adsorbent for removal of anionic dyes

Abstract: A novel magnetic adsorbent alginate/polyethyleneimine (ALG/PEI)n/MN was developed for removal of anionic dyes from aqueous solution in this study. (ALG/PEI)n/MN was prepared by depositing ALG/PEI multi‐layers onto amine‐modified Fe3O4 microspheres through layer‐by‐layer method. The morphologies and structures of the adsorbent were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffractometer, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, respectively, and its performance in adsorption of anionic dye (acid… Show more

“…An innovative magnetic alginate/polyethyleneimine (ALG/ PEI) n /MN was synthesized by deposition of ALG/PEI multilayers onto amine-modified Fe 3 O 4 microspheres (MN) by the layer-by-layer (LbL) methodology for acid orange 10 (AO10) adsorption. [190] The larger the number of coated (ALG/PEI) bilayers, the better the (ALG/PEI) n /MN performance, displaying 246 mg g −1 as maximum adsorption of AO10 (T = 298 K). [190] An ionic cryogel was synthesized by crosslinking polymerization of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonate sodium salt and styrene sulfonate sodium salt.…”

“…Different negatively charged ions and enzymes have been incorporated in this system (ferrocyanide, laccase, glucose oxidase), and different strategies were used to enhance the signal generation (multiwall carbon nanotubes, gold nanoparticles) producing in all cases an excellent response and stability . On the other hand, microalgae and alginate are negatively charged, and their adsorption on different surfaces is currently studied …”

“…Large quantities of dyes have been used in textile and printing industries, which have been regarded as one of the main causes of a large amount of dye‐contaminated water . Aforementioned wastewater is characterized by high toxicity, carcinogenic effect, and overall recalcitrance to biodegradation .…”
