“…It appears that in all these variations the argentophilic interactions in the silver tetrahedra are maintained and contribute significantly to the stability of the tetramers. [110,111] Ag n X n cores are also present in more complex aggregates and held responsible for the intense luminescence of such systems. An example is shown in 25 representing the anion of (Bu 4 N) 4 -[Ag 10 Br 12 (CN) 2 ].…”

“…[110,188,189] From this wealth of data it has been concluded that conservation of the Ag-Ag interactions while minimizing the halide-halide repulsions are the determining effects in the formation of the clusters (cubane or distorted arrays as "stella quadrangular patterns"). [110] Interestingly, a decamer has recently also been discovered in a cluster complex of the formula [(NHC) 4 Ag 10 Cl 10 ] where NHC is 1-methyl-3-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)imidazol-2-ylidene. The large aggregate with its multiple Ag-Cl and Ag-Ag contacts is protected from further aggregation by the NHC ligands (50; carbene bridgings shown as bows).…”

“…[43][44][45] As a comparison, the distances of Ag···Ag argentophilic interactions in many coordination complexes are in the range of 3.0-3.4 Å. [46][47][48][49] We hypothesize that Ag-Ag argentophilic interactions exist in complex 3. The unusual feature of this structure is due to the fact that the 1D ladder chains are connected to each other by interchain Ag-Ag interactions, which result in a 2D grid sheet structure shown in Figure 3b.…”
