Self-assembly as a route to dinuclear lanthanide complexes with rare coordination pattern of salen-type ligand

Abstract: The self-assembled formation of dinuclear lanthanide salicylaldimines is proved by the X-ray diffraction analysis of europium and gadolinium nitrate complexes containing N,N 0 -bis(salicylidene)-4-methyl-1,3-phenylenediamine (H 2 L). The [Eu 2 (H 2 L) 2 (l-H 2 L) 2 (NO 3 ) 6 ] complex, isostructural with the gadolinium complex, displays nine-coordinate distorted tricapped trigonal prism geometry with a different coordination mode of four undeprotonated salicylaldimines, which act as terminal monodentate and l-… Show more

“…In the paper by Kaczmarek et al [200] synthesis and characterization by spectroscopic methods and X-ray structural analysis of (La(III), Eu(III), Gd(III), Er(III), Tm(III), and Lu(III) complexes containing N,N 0 -bis(salicylidene)-4-methyl-1,3-phenylenediamine (H 2 L) ligand is presented formed by self-assembly formation of dinuclear lanthanide salicylaldimines. Crystal structure determination revealed a rare coordination pattern of salen-type ligand.…”

“…During our studies on the complexation properties of salen [N,N 0 -ethylenebis(salicylimine)]-type Schiff base ligands (Kaczmarek et al, 2004(Kaczmarek et al, , 2006Kaczmarek, Kubicki & Radecka-Paryzek, 2010;Kaczmarek, Kubicki, Mondry et al, 2010;Radecka-Paryzek et al, 2007), we have prepared, by condensation reaction between 5-methylsalicylaldehyde and 4-methyl-1,3-phenylenediamine, the new ligand, N,N 0 -bis(5-methylsalicylidene)-4-methyl-1,3-phenylenediamine (H 2 L).…”

“…The research of compounds containing these cations, their ionic antagonists (like other alkaline metals) with anions existing in body fluids is thus of great importance, as they affect the sodium-potassium pump. In addition, recently, an increasing interest is put on construction of dinuclear, multinuclear and polymeric coordination compounds [24][25][26][27] created by self-assembly [28] of the components [29][30][31][32].…”
